Weaving Grace into Routine: Resting in Trust
For a long time, I believed rest was a destination—a week-long vacation or a perfectly cleared calendar. But for those of us with a "Helper's Heart," waiting for an empty calendar means spending our entire lives running on fumes.
What if true, sustainable rest isn't about escaping your life, but trusting God enough to weave intentional moments of grace into it? Here are three gentle steps I’m practicing to care for my mind, body, and spirit by leaning on His understanding instead of my own.
1. Trusting Him with the First Five Minutes
As helpers, our spirit is the well we draw from. Instead of waking up and immediately solving problems, I practice the "Before the Scroll" rule. Before emails or social media, give the first five minutes to God. Sit in the quiet and say, "Lord, I trust You with today. I cannot do it all, but You can."
2. Releasing the Need to Fix It All
Our minds constantly process the needs of everyone around us. To create a quiet space, I do a nightly "brain dump." Right before sleep, I write down every worry and to-do list on a small notepad. Getting it out of my head tells my brain, "I do not have to hold onto this tonight. I am handing it over to God."
3. Redefining Rest as Holy Trust
Physical care can be as simple as hydrating with intention or stepping into the sun for ten minutes. Most importantly, we must redefine rest as a profound act of trust. When you take a nap or go to bed early, you silently tell God, "I trust You to keep the world spinning while I rest." Remember, even Jesus slept in the back of the boat during a storm. Rest is holy.
You Are Doing a Beautiful Job
If you are running on fumes right now, please hear my heart: You are doing so much better than you think. Pick just one tiny moment of grace to weave into your routine today. Lay the heavy superhero cape down.
This pursuit of gentle grace is the heart of Because of Blessings. Wearing words of faith brings a smile—a true "soul hug"—to the invisible spaces of our days. When you wear one of our sweatshirts, I want it to be a physical reminder for you to breathe and trust His perfect timing.
You do not have to earn your visibility through exhaustion. You are seen, known, and allowed to rest.
